We came for a late dinner on a Saturday and there were plenty of open tables. There was live piano music playing which definitely elevated the atmosphere. Our server was courteous and professional. I appreciated the freshly baked sourdough bread and butter that came before our meal.

This restaurant has the BEST shrimp and grits I have ever had. The appetizer portion is enough for a meal! It had so much flavor. The fried green tomatoes were so good as well. The complimentary sourdough bread tastes homemade. Our server, Eric, was so kind and helpful. We absolutely loved him! The manager was also very welcoming. The live piano music, the service, and the food was amazing! 11/10 recommend!!

The Swamp Fox is my favorite restaurant in Charleston! And the food and ambiance is only topped by the welcoming staff. The Francis Marion Hotel (which operates The Swamp Fox) is a privately owned hotel, which is an increasingly rare thing today, and it really shows! Many of the employees have been at the hotel and restaurant for over a decade, and obviously love their job and love the hotel. The Swamp Fox for Charleston! Shrimp and Grits are amazing, as well as the salmon.

Located in the bottom of the Francis Marion Hotel, this restaurant and bar features southern cuisine in a relaxed setting. I had a shrimp burger with the collards (which, though flavored with pork, were also very sugary, which is usually and either/or kind of thing). We also had the she crab soup, which was likewise more heavily bell pepper flavored than either on of us were used to, so I think southern favorites with the chef's own non-traditonal twist would be a fair assessment. Over all, nice meal at a reasonable price for downtown Charleston.

My two star review. I am disappointed. It's "OK". It's mediocre. I ordered the shrimp omelet, and the shrimp tasted awful. It had a sour taste to it, combined with the goat cheese on top, I lost my appetite. I wanted to like it because I loved the vibe in Swampfox. It was old-world Charleston with southern friendliness, music and decor. My omelet was served with grits, but the grits tasted old like leftover from possibly a couple of days before. 🤔 I contemplated saying anything to my waitress. I hate being that person, like a stupid "Karen." However, I did say something, and I was a little disappointed I was being gaslighted about the food. She said "they" the cooks and herself smelled the shrimp and had no idea what I was talking about. I didn't feel like arguing because if they tasted their own food, they would understand the shrimp was sour and the omelet was gross. The fresh fruit cup was really nice until the bottom of the cup. The cantaloupe looked flimsy and old. It had the look of days old fruit in the refrigerator, and that's exactly what it was. Look at the photo. They stacked the fresh strawberries and blueberries on top of the old fruit. When I said something about the fruit, she said it was cut the day before. Again, gaslighting me. I definitely cut fruit up every day. I know it was days old fruit, and it was gross. I told her I did not want to be compensated for my food. That's never necessary with me. I just want accountability and acknowledgment that food should be served with integrity. When it leaves the kitchen, it should be edible and presentable. I still left a tip over 25%. I just hope it is done correctly next time. Otherwise, staying here at this hotel in Charleston is exquisite.
