We went to Charleston to celebrate a 40th birthday and stayed at the Charleston Place. This is absolutely the most beautiful, cleanest and people friendly hotel I have ever stayed in. The minute you walk in to the hotel the clean fresh smell hit our nostrils and it smelled that way throughout, not an overwhelming smell but light and airy. The room was big enough to accommodate us easily, the Nespresso machine was an added pleasure, the pure water station just 2 door down was a joy and the gym was small but very well equipped. But what made this hotel was the people who worked there. They treated everyone so nice and were extremely accommodating, and NEVER acted like anyone was a bother. They truly went above and beyond our expectations. Roosevelt was SO kind and bent over backwards to help us. Emily at the front desk was exceptional, and even the bell hops outside were extremely helpful. The very first night we were there we received a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries with a Happy Birthday chocolate piece- totally unexpected but definitely made an impression on my daughter. We even had turn down service, and the beds were very comfortable. This place truly deserves much more than 5 stars. Thank you to all who made our birthday trip memorable!!
My wife and I just spent four days in downtown Charleston (December 2024) and made it a point to visit Charleston Place to check out their famous Christmas decorations. We’re so glad we did! Formerly known as Belmond Charleston Place, this iconic hotel sits right in the heart of downtown, near the Charleston City Market, and has become well-known for transforming its grand lobby into a holiday wonderland each year. From the moment we stepped in—no matter which entrance we chose—we were greeted by large wooden drummers and dazzling Christmas trees. Inside, the hotel was covered in festive garlands and ornaments, leading us straight to a 300-foot model train that winds its way through a charming little village beneath the hotel’s magnificent chandelier. The sight of the train circling under those sparkling lights, framed by two winding staircases, instantly took me back to my childhood. Upstairs, they had a long hallway lined with real pine trees, each one uniquely decorated by different local businesses from around Charleston. Guests can even scan a handy QR code to vote for their favorite tree. It’s a fun, interactive touch that adds to the holiday excitement—plus, it shows how the hotel really brings the community together during this festive season. All in all, Charleston Place delivered on its reputation for holiday magic. If you’re in Charleston around Christmas, don’t miss the chance to wander through this breathtaking display. Huge thanks to the hotel’s management for putting on such a memorable showcase of decorations—we can’t wait to see which tree ends up winning and look forward to returning next year!

Our family visited CP over the Christmas break and couldn't recommend a better hotel to stay and be immersed in the holidays vibe. Staff is wonderful. Concierge is super attentive. Kids got a surprise gift from Santa for being on the "nice" list. The decor is gorgeous. Snow show every evening is a plus, and being an Amex member gives you access to the terrace and champagne/cookies in the evening. Amazing brunch on Sundays. All the restaurants are excellent. But you must reserve well ahead of time. Definitely recommend staying here!
