This restaurant is a renovated two-story historical southern home turned into a modern restaurant. We made a reservation for 2 and were seated immediately upstairs. The staff was very professional and polite! They helped explain menu options and gave us several suggestions as well. The food was delicious and the banana pudding is some of the best I ever had 💛 The only item I wasn't too fond of was the hushpuppies, they had a slightly different taste than what I am used to. Would recommend to anyone looking for familiar southern cuisine with a modern twist or those looking for a more upscale place to hold celebrations.

We had such a delicious brunch. The Pimento Cheese Fritters are So good and I can’t say enough about the bacon jam that accompanies them. The chicken and waffles is next level….Can definitely be shared as it is a big portion. We tried their award winning Shrimp and Grits and they didn’t disappoint. Our server, Julie, was wonderful and showed us what Southern hospitality is all about!

Had a great experience here. I’ve been to Charleston numerous times but somehow never got around to going to Poogan’s. We started with the pimento cheese ball’s. For the entree we got the famous fried chicken and the chicken and dumplings. Both dishes were fantastic but I have to say the collard greens were above what I expected. Plenty of bite in the green and flavored very well. I highly recommend this place.

We recommend making a reservation, however this place was so good! We had biscuits, an appetizer, and our meals. I had the salad and it was so good I am still dreaming of it. I don’t think I’ve ever said that about a salad before! My sister got blackened redfish and it was so good, she really likes the okra. The waitress even said it was one of her favorites after she ordered! Lastly, we got the bread pudding. We were stuffed but don’t regret getting it at all, it is to die for!

The service was excellent and the setting is nice. The pricing was high considering the quality of the food. She-crab soup gets a 5. Fried green tomatoes get a 3 because they were mostly breading with not much flavor. I had the shrimp and grits (gets a 3). The grits were plain breakfast grits. It tasted fine but just wasn't what I expected compared to other restaurants in town. Wife had the sweet tea lacquered salmon (3). The salmon was good but the carrot ginger puree was not. I suggest ordering the puree on the side.
