You wait outside to be seated Immediately upon being seated you are given water, bread rolls, and oil-balsamic, and menus. Food comes out at different times, maybe more family style We got pizza and pasta with vodka sauce - both were very good! Tasty food!

Mario’s restaurant has delicious food, fast service, and a clean beautiful restaurant. Upon walking up we were promptly greeted and seated. Server filled glasses with water quickly, rolls and olive oil came out quickly, and server took our order quickly. Just that itself is a huge point to make - I cannot tell you the number of restaurants who hostesses ignore you, take forever to seat you, servers who disappear for half an hour. I lived in Italy for two years - the pasta and pizza were delicious and came out hot and fresh. When we needed to head out - server promptly provided a check and checked us out. Only con was the restaurant was a bit loud, not the restaurants fault, but made it hard to hear my wife across the table from me. Other than that - great experience.

Our party of 3 was able to walk in and be seating right away. We did like that the staff was very attentive and fast. Our glasses were always full. The first thing that came out was bread, as soon as I saw the bread I wondered if it was frozen. It reminded us of the pre-cooked frozen rolls you see at ALDIs or Lidl. We tasted the bread and it tasted bland. Our food was out in about 10 minutes which wasn’t a good sign for us. I had the Alfredo pasta, if you don’t like your mouth being burned by garlic do not order this. This dish was overpowered by so much garlic it started to burn my tongue. On top of that there was no flavor. The flavors were mute, not at all exciting or a representation of Italian food. Our recommendation would be less garlic, add salt, fresh bread have salt and pepper at tables. For Italian experience don’t rush your guest (don’t have them pay unless they request it).

We decided on Italian for dinner and this was a short walk from our hotel. This is a first come, first serve, no reservations establishment. We arrived a little after 5 and were seated immediately. It's a cozy restaurant. Since we were more towards the front, we didn't get a chance to see if it opened up in the back. I ordered the Carbonara, and my wife had the Alfredo pizza. I also ordered an incredible merlot from the Abruzzo region. My wife stuck with water. My meal came out very quick, I mean really quick! My wife's pizza trailed about 5 minutes later. While much more saucy than I'm used to with Carbonara, it was still very good. The pachetta was full of flavor. My wife decided to knife and fork it with the pizza, and it seemed to drive her crazy. But she still enjoyed it. The prices were moderate with the area with most meals priced in the low to mid $20s. Both meals were very filling so we skipped the dessert. The service was excellent, the servers were very attentive, and they were willing to make substitutions on the menu. Otherwise, it was a good time. Enjoy.

Review for Mario’s Italian Restaurant – Charleston, SC Mario's Italian Restaurant is a must-visit if you're looking for an authentic Italian dining experience in Charleston! The quaint and inviting atmosphere made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. The warm decor and cozy setting set the perfect backdrop for our meal. We started our culinary adventure with the Frittura di Calamari, and I must say, it was fried to perfection! The calamari was tender and lightly breaded, and it paired beautifully with the tangy marinara sauce and a squeeze of fresh lemon. It was the ideal appetizer to kick off our evening. We indulged in the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara and the Pizza Crudo for our main courses. The Carbonara was an absolute delight, featuring a rich blend of pancetta, onions, and freshly grated Parmesan, all brought together with a luscious egg yolk and cream sauce. Each bite was creamy and flavorful, truly capturing the essence of traditional Italian cooking. The Pizza Crudo was equally impressive, with its fresh mozzarella, savory prosciutto, and peppery arugula drizzled with high-quality extra virgin olive oil. It was a perfect balance of flavors that left us wanting more. The only hiccup during our meal was our request for black pepper to accompany the Carbonara, which unfortunately never arrived. However, the deliciousness of the food more than made up for it! Mario’s Italian Restaurant exceeded our expectations with its fantastic food, charming ambiance, and attentive service. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Charleston, don’t miss the chance to experience this gem. We can’t wait to return for another delightful meal!
