We heard great things about Lewis Barbecue from a friend so we dropped by during our last evening in Charleston. Thankfully we arrived right on time because the line was already long but much longer when we started eating. There’s a nice flow from waiting near the bar where you can grab a drink to a path leading to the ordering station. The team is helpful, kind, and knowledgeable about the meats and sides and things were coming out fresh regularly even during the short time we were at the front ordering. We basically sampled a bit of everything (and I’ll preface by saying everything was fantastic, no notes) but the stars of the show were the spare ribs and the brisket. I’d recommend the original sauce or the secret sauce if you are planning on adding picking up any sauce cups to go with your meal. Of the sides, the fries and the collard greens stood out but everything we had was tasty.

I love how big this place is!
Meat cutter was very nice.
My favorite food was the side of corn pudding. Never had anything quite like it. Has a little jalapeño kick if you’re sensitive.
The brisket was pretty good but I’d recommend eating it right away before it gets too cold.
Loved all the sauces from the sauce bar.

Hands down, this is my favorite restaurant in Charleston! The flavors are incredible, and as someone from India, I haven’t had many chances to try beef or brisket. However, after my boss introduced me to this place, I was blown away.
I’ve sampled brisket at several spots, but this one is by far the best I’ve ever had. The USDA Prime beef brisket is simply outstanding. The sides are equally impressive, with high-quality options like fries, collard greens, mac n’ cheese, potato salad, and my personal favorite—corn pudding. Their sausages are also incredibly flavorful.
I’ve tried both the brisket and their sandwiches, and they never disappoint. They offer three types of sauces: a tangy sauce, a green chile sauce, and a hot sauce—all so good that they even sell them.
The ambiance has a historic, old Texas vibe that adds to the experience, and the staff are as friendly and welcoming as it gets.
10/10 — Highly recommend this place!

Refreshing to see market style BBQ in the south instead of "Meat and side" plates that are all over the place down there. This is BBQ done right. Turkey was juicy, ribs were well seasoned and didn't need any sauce, sausage had a good snap. I wouldn't change anything. My only regret was not being able to get the beef ribs, but that just means I'll have to come back.

Amazing food! This Texas style bbq place was packed but the line was moving fast and we found a table to sit. We ordered ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, sliced brisket, hot sausage with sides of potato salad, Mac n cheese, Cole slaw, collard greens and corn pudding bread! Every meat was so flavourful and tender, no need for any sauce! The ribs were with the dry rub not the saucy ones (my kind of ribs) and surprisingly they did not have any unnecessary fat! Service was fast and very friendly! We parked in the parking lot on the next street. All in all worth the wait!
