My wife and I just spent four days in downtown Charleston celebrating our first wedding anniversary, and we made a point to stop at Kilwins—we couldn’t resist! About six months ago, we discovered Kilwins while visiting Savannah, Georgia, near the riverboat cruise tours, and we instantly fell in love with their chocolate. Naturally, when we spotted a Kilwins here in Charleston, we had to go in.
We have a few go-to treats: the dark chocolate–covered Rice Krispie treat, a couple of dark chocolate–covered pretzels, and the dark chocolate–covered Oreo. If you’re a fellow chocolate lover, you’ll understand the draw—Kilwins really knows how to do chocolate right. They also have some pretty impressive fudge, but in my opinion, nothing compares to their chocolate creations.
If you or anyone in your family has a sweet tooth, definitely treat yourselves to a few of these goodies. They’re absolutely worth it—especially if you’re celebrating a special occasion like we were! We’ll be back for sure.

Local ice cream parlor and candy shop in the Charleston s.c. area of city market. When you approach the store, you can smell a distinctive sweet smell as you approach. They a wonderful variety of chocolate goodies they make along with the ice cream shop and candy coated apples. The store is very delightful and kid friendly.

I don't eat ice cream very often, but I love the toasted coconut. Whenever I see Kilwins in destination cities, I can't resist stopping in. I was really looking forward to having some on this trip to Charleston. Unfortunately, when my party of seven entered the store at 9:05PM we were informed by 2 workers that they were "out of ice cream." We could see the tubs of ice cream in the freezer cases, but it appeared that they had already covered them, and just didn't want to be bothered to serve us. (Store hours posted as open til 10PM, so should have been another almost hour left for business.) You would think that ice cream for 7 people would have been a nice way to end the day, since the market area was so quiet, but I guess the employees just wanted to go home.

While Charleston has some of the best food around, it is not known for ice cream (certainly not to the level of... Let's say Montreal Canada). That being said, Kilwin's has some extremely decent offerings. Their ice cream is certainly the best in town. They also have all kinds of candied products. The shop can be busy and packed but the line usually moves fairly quickly, even during peak time you should be able to get your ice cream in 5 to 10 minutes.
