We purchased our tickets through the Charleston Museum and it was a really great experience. The home is lovely, well preserved and absolutely beautifully furnished. When first built the property extended all the way to the river. It was even slated for demolition at one point but thankfully was preserved. A beautiful home and great tour.

The house is a beautifully preserved example of Federal-style architecture, offering visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of an early 19th-century Charleston family. The house is adorned with elegant period furnishings and intricate architectural details, from its grand spiral staircase to its ornate moldings. Guided tours provide good insights into the lives of the main family and the enslaved people who lived and worked on the property, offering a comprehensive look at Charleston’s complex history. The well-maintained gardens add to the charm, making it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and architecture lovers exploring Charleston.

I liked this tour. It felt authentic and comprehensive for the most part. I would have liked to know a little bit more about the exterior of the home and the gardens, especially since they are maintained by a local society. Other than that, It had no drawbacks. I bundled the cost with the Charleston museum and I thought it was very affordable. Interesting architectural details that I've never seen before in other cities. I wish the third story was viewable - seems like a simple emergency exit could avert the fire code issue.

What I love about this house is its authenticity. So many museum houses are completely overdone. This one is magnificent in its simplicity and refinement. The Charleston Museum has gone to unusual lengths to study every part of the house's inventory and the lifestyle of the owner. This is the real deal.

Gorgeous historical building. Our tour guild (i think her name was Roselyn) was wonderful! Loved the little story about the family's children's pet bird.
