Do not let anyone tell you that Hyman's Seafood is overrated, or a tourist trap, etc. Hyman's is a homerun and a must visit on a trip to Charleston.
We received the absolute finest service and received a lovely visit from the owner. The food came out extremely quick and our waitress was extremely attentive.
Fisherman's Feast: This lived up to the name feast, it had an incredible Salmon Cake that was perfectly moist and delicious. The fried oysters were delectable even for those not a fan of oysters. The fried cod was absolutely perfectly cooked.
Salmon Dinner: The salmon was perfectly cooked and a delicious respite from a fried seafood heavy trip.
Shrimp Platter: Each type of shrimp was better than the last. The scampi was particularly delicious. The fried shrimp was perfectly cooked and not dry in the slightest.
The cocktails were perfectly balanced and a delicious addition to the meal.
The lack of reservations throughout Charleston is unfortunate but Hyman's handles this well by ensuring the wait time is not outrageous unlike many other spots in town.

The environment was very warm and welcoming the hosts out front were lovely and our bartender was very attentive. Our server Montana was amazing love her and her atmosphere. The owner Mr. Hyman and his son came to our table to make sure everything was good and it so was :) will definitely be coming back for the yummy food. Definitely recommend the crispy Brussels sprouts!

The 4.9 star rating drew us in and the excellent service and food didn’t disappoint. We ordered three appetizers and were quite full from that. My wife loved the Chilean sea bass croquet and I liked the shrimp and grits. The muscles were good but didn’t shone like the others. I would definitely come back. In a city of expensive clothes and food this was a refreshing bargain.

As soon as we arrive at Charleston, we head over to Hyman’s seafood and put our name on the waitlist. This place has a long line of people waiting all day but it’s worth the wait!
Service is extremely friendly and efficient.
As you start with Hush puppy and coleslaw, you know why the wait is so long. They do everything right!!
I ordered from “Build own” menu. Scallops, Cod with Caribbean jerk seasoning were great! Shrimp and grits - wow!!
My husband’s fried captain platter was awesome. It was a lot of fried food but we were able to enjoy every bite of it.
This restaurant has been run through many generations and you can see the photos of many famous people. We sat at the table where Patrick Ewing was seated.
Had so much fun eating delicious seafood at Hyman’s. Price is very reasonable and portion is huge.

My wife and I have lived in Cane Bay for over seven years. We try to get downtown as often as possible, but we'd never been to Hyman's until our friends were visiting recently and wanted to go out for seafood.
We're vegetarians, but we were happy to finally get to Hyman's since it's always so highly recommended. It turns out that they actually have a dedicated vegan menu with several options.
I must say, from start to finish, everything lived up to the reputation of this establishment. I had the veggie tacos, and they were delicious. My wife enjoyed hush puppies and a salad (with a very generous portion and tasty dressing). Our friends had the low country boil, which they said was the best they've ever had.
The service was impeccable. Tobias stopped by to chat with us, and he couldn't have been more welcoming.
Make sure you check out the gift shop. Don't leave without picking up some salt scrubs and t-shirts!
I can't wait for our next visit!
