I rarely write reviews, but our experience at the Francis Marion Hotel was frustrating enough that I feel compelled to share. From the moment we arrived, things were off. Our room wasn’t ready at check-in, and we were told to speak with the valet to store our belongings. Unfortunately, the valet was incredibly rude and unprofessional. He spent more time complaining about a math final he hadn’t studied for than actually helping us, which set a really poor tone. Once we finally got into our room, things didn’t improve much. The room itself was outdated and had a strange smell that lingered the entire stay. The “vintage charm” this hotel boasts about just feels like a cover for avoiding necessary updates. The bathroom was ridiculously small — the toilet was cramped and awkward to use, which made even basic comfort an issue. Valet service remained a problem throughout the stay. Every time we called down for our car, it took over 30 minutes to retrieve. The staff was consistently rude, and one valet even seemed completely unsure how to operate our car — he put it in neutral, opened the trunk for no reason, and just looked confused. It didn’t inspire any confidence. Overall, this hotel is resting on its historic reputation without delivering basic modern hospitality. We expected classic charm, but what we got felt more like neglect. Would not recommend.
We stayed in a few of the suites for our wedding weekend and it was perfect! The rooms were awesome for our group. The service and support from the Francis Marion staff and team members was incredible - couldn’t have been better! Working with Bailey and the events team was so great; they made the planning process (hotel blocks etc) so easy. Id highly recommend staying at the Francis Marion for weddings or other events!
You can't get a better location in the city than this gem of a hotel. It helped me relax on our trip as we didn't have to drive anywhere/have to worry about parking anywhere. The front desk associates were incredibly pleasant and very friendly. Our room was made every day at our convenience, and the bed was very comfortable. Another weird thing I appreciated was the HVAC system....that probably sounds weird but it's always so annoying when you stay in a hotel and the air conditioner is extremely loud and can't hold the room temp. If you're like my wife and appreciate rooms that always keep at the temp you set it without disturbing your sleep, you'll love the (probably old but gold) HVAC this place has.
Lovely boutique hotel in the center of Charleston. Great location to King Street shopping but a little far away from the Harbor. The hotel is architecturally stunning in many areas, rooms are small but updated and the food was very good. Try the she crab soup!
Rooms need ac updating. Still use old wall units. Awaiting per the staff, upgrades. Room gets hot after shower and muggy. No real view in most rooms. But the historic part of it is nice. I appreciate the history but not the price for what you get
