Parking can be difficult as best; park in the parking deck at 24 Calhoun Street to get as close as possible. The visitor center is free but you will need to buy a ticket to take a boat to the fort. The ticket was $24 and required 2 1/2 hours. I did not spend money to go to the fort; that being said there is information in the visitors center. I would suggest you spend the time and money and go see the fort. Don't forget to have your passport book stamped!

We had a great time at Fort Sumter. The ferry ride is colder than you think. Be smarter than us and pack a jacket. The Fort itself is so windy, as is the ferry. There was standing room only on the ferry. So line up early. We are glad we went!

This is a very educational stop. Buy your ticket for your 30-minute ride to Fort Sumter Island and explore the Fort. The boat has snacks, drinks, and restrooms.

An amazing historical trip back in time. Enjoy the short boat ride to the Fort, keeping your eyes peeled for dolphins, pelicans & other wildlife.
The Rangers are extremely knowledgeable & are eager to share the stories from the past.
For those with mobility issues, there are a few places on site that could be a bit difficult to maneuver. There are wheelchair lifts that allow access to the upper levels of the Fort.
Highly recommended!

This is a great thing to check out before heading to the fort. There are a few exhibits and some history packed in this building, and beautiful views from the ferry terminal.
