We really could not find the entrance for a while!!
It is a very cute speakeasy bar with awesome atmosphere! It’s below the ground and you feel like in the cave.
The cocktails menu is amazing! Unique mixtures make it very high-touch.
I loved the candles on each table. The perfect spot for a cute date!

We stopped here to try a couple of signature cocktails and we were not disappointed. It's downstairs below a restaurant and has a speak easy feel to it. Cool decor and an intimate setting. The food looked good but we had already ate, would definitely visit here again

We had an absolutely amazing experience here for dinner a few weeks back. If you’re looking for an intimate speakeasy experience, head downstairs below Brassiere La Banque where you’re able to order the full menu in a cozy environment.
The Good: obviously the ambience as I mentioned above. The service was fantastic! Cokie (sp?) worked the room like an absolute pro greeting each person in a friendly manner, remembering every food/drink order, and offering helpful suggestions. She also came up with delicious, inventive cocktails based off personal preferences that weren’t on the menu. Such a talented mixologist! We loved every drink she came up with. I know that’s kind of Gin Joint’s thing - but go here for the same experience! Also, the food was delicious. The menu is smaller but we enjoyed everything. We got the duck meatballs, crab cake, and steak frites and weren’t disappointed in anything. I don’t like duck and never order it but Cokie convinced us to try it and I’m so glad because it’s out of my norm!
The Meh: nothing
The Bad: definitely nothing
Restaurants like this are part of what make Charleston a foodie city! While many visitors frequent the seafood places, I encourage you to try this French-inspired cuisine below street level and thank me later :)

Bar Vaute, located behind a heavy curtain in the basement, delivers on the promise of a super speakeasy vibe. Music sets give a very St. Germain feel and the eclectic glassware, seating, etc… contribute to the overall ambiance. Jennifer, behind the bar, hand crafts some amazing cocktails and engaged guests with smart, edgy, entertaining conversation. Jennifer knows her way around the bar but is equally well versed in the brasserie located “up top” and serves as a great ambassador for both Bar Vaute and Brasserie La Banque. We shared a cheese plate and delightful cocktail concoctions and left both happy and impressed. So glad we added Bar Vaute to our “cocktail hop” list!

Drinks were just ok. Wouldn’t recommend anything from the cocktail list as it isn’t very innovative and the spirits selection is lacking. Overall I recommend just for the vibe and getting a basic drink. Can’t beat it.
