An amazing historical trip back in time. Enjoy the short boat ride to the Fort, keeping your eyes peeled for dolphins, pelicans & other wildlife.
The Rangers are extremely knowledgeable & are eager to share the stories from the past.
For those with mobility issues, there are a few places on site that could be a bit difficult to maneuver. There are wheelchair lifts that allow access to the upper levels of the Fort.
Highly recommended!

The Fort Sumpter Visitor Education Center is great. This is where you purchase tickets to the island and the fort. There is also a small museum to provide insight into the significance of Fort Sumpter. The center also provides comfortable air conditioned seating and restrooms while waiting for the ferry.

I would highly recommend purchasing your tickets ahead of time online, they simply scanned the QR code of your device and let you board the ferry. On the ferry you can go inside the main rooms or out onto the decks, at the front of the ferry you can see the ravenel bridge, (The iconic bridge) and to the left there is the aircraft carrier (Yorktown). Also in the harbor you have a chance of seeing dolphins. As your ferry travels across the harbor to fort Sumter, you will pass by Fort/Castle Pickney. One really cool thing that happens at Fort Sumter is if you are the first group that goes you can help raise the flag, a park ranger will be organizing the flag raising along with some state trivia. Overall Fort Sumter is a really cool Fort to go to, I have gone to fort Moultrie as well, both are really cool and I recommend going to see them both as they are very important to the history and foundation of this state.

The building is interesting, with some good exhibits but mostly a launching off point for the ferry to Fort Sumter. You'll have to pay for parking here.

Loved the ferry right to Ft. Sumter. Once we got to the island we had about an hour to explore. Loved the flag ceremony where visitors got to help. The museum on the island is pretty cool. Also got to checknout the gift shop!
