I rarely write reviews, but our experience at the Francis Marion Hotel was frustrating enough that I feel compelled to share. From the moment we arrived, things were off. Our room wasn’t ready at check-in, and we were told to speak with the valet to store our belongings. Unfortunately, the valet was incredibly rude and unprofessional. He spent more time complaining about a math final he hadn’t studied for than actually helping us, which set a really poor tone.
Once we finally got into our room, things didn’t improve much. The room itself was outdated and had a strange smell that lingered the entire stay. The “vintage charm” this hotel boasts about just feels like a cover for avoiding necessary updates. The bathroom was ridiculously small — the toilet was cramped and awkward to use, which made even basic comfort an issue.
Valet service remained a problem throughout the stay. Every time we called down for our car, it took over 30 minutes to retrieve. The staff was consistently rude, and one valet even seemed completely unsure how to operate our car — he put it in neutral, opened the trunk for no reason, and just looked confused. It didn’t inspire any confidence.
Overall, this hotel is resting on its historic reputation without delivering basic modern hospitality. We expected classic charm, but what we got felt more like neglect. Would not recommend.

Attentive and dedicated staff, from the housekeeping, front desk, to the door person. Beautiful lobby, nice bar, comfortable seating area. Room was great, beds comfortable. Ice machine was too loud though, and woke me up in the middle of night. I could hear people in the room next door talking in their bathroom. Did not see the ghost!

We stayed in a few of the suites for our wedding weekend and it was perfect! The rooms were awesome for our group. The service and support from the Francis Marion staff and team members was incredible - couldn’t have been better! Working with Bailey and the events team was so great; they made the planning process (hotel blocks etc) so easy. Id highly recommend staying at the Francis Marion for weddings or other events!

Couldn’t ask for a better location. Can simply walk out and be right in King st. Make a left or right and it’s a nice walk to everything.
Bed was suppppppperrr comfy and for someone who travels often.. this is a grand compliment.
Clean rooms and wonderful service. Will definitely come back

Everything was wonderful! We had the opportunity to stay in the presidential suite and it was phenomenal! Views, beds, towels, toiletries, everything was top of the line and so pretty to look at.
The staff were so helpful and prompt and we felt so pampered and taken care of. It was so nice to stay in such a historic hotel and it was so convenient to anywhere we wanted to go! Will absolutely be coming back again!
